SUMMARY:Compact Course
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Nathan Harshman from the American University in Washington on: „Applications of Group Theory to Symmetry in Quantum Theory“. \nThe course will take place on December 13 and 14\, 2023\, each from 8.30 am – 12.30 am at Technische Universität Berlin \nMain contents of the compact course summarized are: \nSymmetry is useful across physics\, but especially so in quantum theory. Exploiting the symmetries of a quantum system provides computational advantages and reveals invariant observables. Classifying symmetries reveals connections among models and identifies new forms of universality. This short course (eight hours over two days) will provide an overview of some key applications of group theory to quantum systems with a focus on practical results and unifying perspectives useful for quantum physicists. Minimal previous exposure to group theory will be assumed and mathematical notions will be introduced as needed\, but appeals to physical intuition will take priority over mathematical rigor.
