TUPEX-6 team members Ferdinand Fürstenau, Alex Sullivan, and Brian Treacy traveled to Bonn this Sunday to participate in the REXUS 25/26 Selection Workshop. After settling into the hostel, they spent the evening practicing their presentation and searching for an ironing board.
On Monday morning the Selection Workshop began with speakers from DLR, REXUS/BEXUS, ZARM, Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), and Esrange Space Center. The workshop schedule was finally distributed, revealing that the team would not be presenting until Tuesday morning. Five other student teams, however, began presenting their experiment proposals. There were many interesting ideas, such as an ejectable glider, but the team remained confident in TUPEX-6. Later in the day, there was a very interesting lecture on project and risk management given by DLR’s Elane Khanina.
Tuesday morning started with representatives from ZARM walking the teams through the spacial aspects to design rocket experiments. Then it was time for TUPEX-6. The presentation was a great success with many good questions from the selection panel afterward. The coffee break conversations from the previous day even lead to panel members answering each other’s questions on behalf of the team.
The rest of the second day was spent wrapping up a couple more student presentations and lectures on documentation and systems engineering. Following DLR’s closing remarks, the TUPEX-6 representatives set off in search of the infamous Kölsch bier before their train ride home to Berlin.
